Nigeria’s first female Accountant-General of the Federation, Dr. Sakirat Oluwatoyin Madein, has extended warm greetings to Muslims across Nigeria and in the diaspora as they join millions of faithful worldwide to celebrate the 2026 Eid-il-Kabir festival, urging citizens to uphold the virtues of sacrifice, peace, compassion, and national unity.
Dr. Madein, in a goodwill message released ahead of the Sallah celebration scheduled for Wednesday, May 27, 2026, described Eid-il-Kabir as one of the most spiritually significant festivals in Islam, symbolising obedience to God, selflessness, humility, and unwavering faith.
The distinguished financial expert and founder of the Olowo Oloye Foundation noted that the celebration, also known as Eid al-Adha or the Festival of Sacrifice, commemorates the remarkable willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son in total submission to the command of Almighty Allah before God, in His mercy, provided a ram as a substitute.
According to her, the sacred festival remains a timeless lesson on the values of love, devotion, tolerance, generosity, forgiveness, and compassion, virtues she described as indispensable to peaceful coexistence, communal harmony, and sustainable national development.
She stated that Eid-il-Kabir serves as a reminder that citizens must rise above selfish interests and embrace collective responsibility, mutual respect, and service to humanity in order to build a stronger and more united nation.
Dr. Madein further highlighted the significance of Qurbani, the symbolic sacrificial offering of animals such as rams, goats, and cows during the festival, explaining that the sharing of meat among family members, neighbours, friends, and the less privileged reflects the true essence of charity, empathy, and social support embedded in Islamic teachings.
She also noted that the Eid celebration coincides with the completion of the annual Hajj pilgrimage in the holy city of Mecca, one of the Five Pillars of Islam, making the occasion spiritually important for Muslims around the globe.
The former Accountant-General urged Nigerians to use the festive period to strengthen bonds of unity, promote peaceful coexistence, and extend acts of kindness and generosity to vulnerable members of society.
“As we celebrate this season of sacrifice, love, and compassion, I encourage all Nigerians to reflect these noble virtues in our daily interactions by supporting one another, promoting peace within our communities, caring for the less privileged, and contributing meaningfully to national growth and development,” she stated.
Dr. Madein, an illustrious daughter of Iperu Remo in Ogun State, also expressed optimism about Nigeria’s future despite the current economic and security challenges facing the country.
While acknowledging the concerns of many citizens over insecurity and socio-economic hardships, she maintained that the nation would overcome its present difficulties through faith in God, responsible leadership, and collective determination.
She appealed to Nigerians to continue supporting governments at all levels in efforts aimed at restoring peace, stability, and safety across the country, stressing that national security should be seen as a collective responsibility.
“Despite the challenges confronting our nation, I strongly believe there is hope ahead. With unity, faith, resilience, and purposeful leadership, Nigeria will emerge stronger, safer, and more prosperous,” she added.
The renowned chartered accountant also offered prayers for divine guidance and protection for Nigerians both at home and abroad, while praying for wisdom for leaders, comfort for grieving families, peace in troubled communities, and renewed hope for every household.
She further encouraged citizens to remain steadfast and united in building a nation anchored on justice, equity, peace, and sustainable development.
Meanwhile, Dr. Madein congratulated the people of Iperu-Akesanland ahead of the 2026 Ojude Oba Celebration scheduled to hold on May 29, 2026, at the Iperu Mini Stadium Complex, Atenda, Iperu Remo.
She rejoiced with members of the Iperu Regency Council, eminent traditional rulers, the Iperu Akesan Development Association, and the Ojude Oba Planning Committee for sustaining and promoting the rich cultural heritage of the ancient town.
Dr. Madein also extended special greetings to the Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, respected Iperu elder Kesington Adebukunola Adebutu, as well as sons and daughters of Iperu-Akesanland both at home and abroad for preserving the community’s enduring cultural identity and traditions.
She prayed for continued peace, progress, unity, and prosperity in Iperu-Akesanland and Ogun State as a whole.
