Lagos State University of Science and Technology has taken a significant step in its internationalisation agenda following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with SGH Warsaw School of Economics, one of Europe’s leading business and economics institutions.
The partnership agreement, signed at the SGH campus in Warsaw, is expected to create new academic and research opportunities for students, faculty members and the wider university community.
According to a statement released on Thursday by the LASUSTECH Communication Unit, the collaboration forms part of the institution’s broader efforts to strengthen its global visibility and establish strategic international partnerships capable of enhancing teaching, learning and research.
The Vice-Chancellor of LASUSTECH, Professor Olumuyiwa Odusanya, signed the agreement on behalf of the Nigerian institution, while the Rector of SGH Warsaw School of Economics, Professor Piotr Wachowiak, represented the Polish university.
Speaking after the signing ceremony, Odusanya described the partnership as a major milestone in the university’s journey toward international academic integration and global competitiveness.
He stated that the agreement would position LASUSTECH within a network of globally recognised institutions and provide opportunities for students and lecturers to gain valuable international exposure.
“This partnership positions LASUSTECH within an elite global academic network and creates pathways for our students and faculty to benefit from international exposure and collaboration,” Odusanya said.
The vice-chancellor noted that the collaboration aligned with the institution’s vision of transforming into a globally competitive university driven by innovation, research excellence and strategic partnerships.
He added that the agreement would enhance academic exchange, improve institutional capacity and expose LASUSTECH students to international best practices in business, economics and applied social sciences.
The statement further disclosed that members of the LASUSTECH delegation included the Dean of the College of Applied Social Sciences, Professor Olumuyiwa Olamade, and Ayo Eso, who participated in discussions aimed at developing implementation strategies for the partnership.
During the visit to Poland, both institutions reportedly held extensive meetings on how to operationalise the agreement and ensure effective collaboration in critical academic areas.
LASUSTECH explained that the partnership would grant the university access to SGH’s globally recognised “Triple Crown accreditation standards and elite global networks,” a development expected to boost the institution’s international profile.
The collaboration is also expected to facilitate student exchange programmes with credit transfer opportunities, allowing students from both institutions to participate in academic programmes across borders while earning recognised credits.
In addition, the agreement covers faculty exchange initiatives that will enable lecturers and researchers to engage in teaching, training and collaborative academic activities between both universities.
Joint research projects, conferences, seminars and academic publications are also expected to emerge from the partnership as both institutions seek to strengthen cooperation in research and innovation.
