The 2026 Unity Cup in London is shaping up to be a major event for the Super Eagles as they look to defend their title. Currently ranked 26th globally as of the latest FIFA rankings (released April 2026), Nigeria enters the tournament as the heavy favorite.
​The Unity Cup is a four-nation invitational tournament designed to celebrate football and cultural heritage within global diaspora communities. This year, the event moves to The Valley (home of Charlton Athletic FC) in South London.
The tournament kicks off on May 26 – May 30, 2026 with Participating Teams like Nigeria, Jamaica, Zimbabwe, and India. To a knockout style consisting of two semi-finals, a third-place play-off, and the Grand Final.
​Nigeria starts their campaign with an “African heavyweight” semi-final, while India and Jamaica battle on the other side of the bracket.
Head coach Éric Chelle is expected to use this tournament to test fringe players and new diaspora-born talents. Stars like Femi Azeez (Millwall) and David Ozoh (Crystal Palace) are rumored to be part of this experimental squad, while regulars like Victor Osimhen may be rested.
This marks the first time in 24 years that the Indian national team (the “Blue Tigers”) will play in the UK. Their presence is expected to draw a massive crowd from the local Indian community.
Jamaica was the runner-up in the 2025 edition, losing to Nigeria 5-4 on penalties. They are currently the second-highest-ranked team in the tournament.
Beyond the pitch, the tournament will feature a “Food Court” with authentic flavors from all four nations and live performances from international DJs and artists, turning The Valley into a week-long cultural festival.
