The Kano State Government has reiterated its commitment to strengthening collaboration with the Federal Government and development partners as part of efforts to improve the education sector and expand access to quality learning across the state.
Governor Abba Yusuf made the commitment on Friday while receiving the Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Ahmed, during a courtesy visit at the Government House in Kano.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Saturday by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mustapha Muhammad.
According to the statement, Governor Yusuf said education remained a critical pillar of his administration’s development agenda, stressing that the government would continue to prioritise policies and programmes aimed at improving access to quality education for children across the state.
The governor noted that the state government was determined to create a conducive learning environment through the provision of educational infrastructure, recruitment of qualified teachers and support for initiatives designed to reduce the number of out-of-school children.
He stated that Kano would continue to partner with the Federal Ministry of Education, donor agencies and other stakeholders to reposition the sector and address longstanding challenges affecting teaching and learning.
Yusuf explained that collaboration between governments and development institutions was essential to achieving sustainable progress in the education sector, especially in areas such as school enrollment, girl-child education, teacher capacity development and educational technology.
The governor also highlighted ongoing investments by his administration in the renovation of schools, construction of additional classrooms and provision of learning materials to public schools across the state.
According to him, improving educational standards would contribute significantly to economic growth, social stability and youth empowerment in Kano State.
He further assured the minister that his administration would continue to provide the necessary support for all educational programmes and interventions targeted at improving literacy and educational outcomes.
“Our administration remains fully committed to supporting every initiative aimed at improving access to quality education and expanding educational infrastructure across Kano State,” the governor was quoted as saying.
Yusuf also commended the Federal Government for its continued interventions in the education sector, expressing optimism that stronger partnerships would yield positive results for students and teachers alike.
In her remarks, Professor Ahmed reportedly praised the Kano State Government for its commitment to educational development and acknowledged the efforts being made to improve infrastructure and learning conditions in schools across the state.
The minister stressed the importance of collaboration between federal and state governments in tackling educational challenges, particularly the issue of out-of-school children, which remains a major concern in northern Nigeria.
She noted that the Federal Ministry of Education was committed to working closely with state governments to implement policies and programmes that would expand access to education and improve the quality of teaching nationwide.
Ahmed also emphasised the need for sustained investment in human capital development, describing education as a vital tool for national development and poverty reduction.
Stakeholders in the education sector have continued to advocate stronger synergy among governments,
development agencies and community leaders to improve school enrollment and reduce educational disparities, particularly in underserved communities.
