POLITICAL alignments in the country moved to faster gear on Sunday night when Peter Obi, former Labour Party presidential candidate, and Rabiu Mohammed Kwankwaso, former Minister of Defence, joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC.
They both left the African Democratic Congress, ADC, where they were top members of the party and contenders for its presidential ticket.
Kwankwaso spoke about the importance of unity and peace of the NDC as he pledged to worked together for the improvement of Nigeria for everyone.
“Register for NDC, join NDC,” Kwankwaso, who some members of his Kwankwassiya were present, urged Nigeria.
Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed Binani, a 2023 Adamawa governorship candidate, who on Saturday joined NDC spoke next. She assured that NDC will work for the inclusion of women in its decisions.
Obi spoke extensively on party unity. He begged NDC members to avoid litigations and work for the good of every Nigerian so that there would be a great country. The Obident Movement was present.
A more pushed platform is the OK Movement which foresees Obi and Kwankwaso running on the same presidential ticket. The two aspirants have grown together since their membership of ADC. They admitted that they left because of too many litigations in ADC.
NDC National Leader Senator Seriake Dickson praised the duo, whose pedigree he recognised and welcomed them to the party without factions, without litigations.
Dickson said that their presence in NDC would add to the party’s growth which has been in leaps and bounds since the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, registered it in February 2026 following a judgement of the Federal High Court, Lokoja.
NDC National Chairman Senator Moses Cleopas while welcoming the Obi, Kwankwaso, and their supporyers to the NDC said that further announcements would be made on these developments.
Obi, Kwankwaso and NDC leadership went into more meetings after the public declaration.
