A technologist, Abdullahi Abass has unveiled a community-driven intelligence and early warning application, to combat cybercrimes.
The app is designed to enhance communication between communities, youths and security agencies.
Abass said this on Thursday at a one-day Bauchi Youth Security Summit.
The theme of the summit is: “Youth and Security Agencies Strategic Dialogue Towards Curbing Insecurity in Bauchi State.”
The event is being organised by the National Orientation Agency (NOA), in collaboration with the National Youth Council of Nigeria.
Abass, who is also the Chief Executive Officer, Cyber Keen Security Solutions Limited, said the innovation was part of his contributions to promote peace and security at the grassroots.
He said the app is currently at a pilot stage, and requires support and approval of government and security agencies before being released to the public.
“The platform addresses gaps in existing systems and ensures anonymity, as it does not reveal the identity of individuals reporting security issues,” he said.
Mr Lanre Issa-Onilu, Director-General of NOA, described the summit as a movement for peace and security.
Represented by Nuru Kobi, NOA Zonal Director, North-East, Issa-Onilu said peace building was a collective responsibility that needed citizens to provide useful information to security agencies.
He said the agency has developed an AI-driven civic engagement app, and underscored the importance of its National Values Charter.
Also, Nasiru Mahe, NOA Director in the state, said the dialogue aligned with the agency’s mandate of promoting unity, shared values and national cohesion.
Mahe said that youths are central in addressing insecurity, stressing that they must be actively involve in providing lasting solutions to security challenges.
Also, Babayo Gambari, Bauchi Commissioner for Youth and Sports, said the engagement would strengthen efforts toward sustaining peace in the state.
He urged youths to participate in community engagement and neighbourhood watch initiatives.
On his part, Babangida Onimidi-Issa, President, National Youth Council of Nigeria, emphasised the need to build trust, create employment opportunities for youths and establish clear communication channels between communities and security agencies.
Highlights of the event featured paper presentations and discussions on security and peace building.
The summit was attended by youth and women groups, government officials, representatives of the police, army, security agencies, community and religious leaders.
