The Lagos State Government has dismissed reports alleging that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has been asked to resign on health grounds, describing the claim as false and misleading.
In a statement issued by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, the government said the report, published by Sahara Reporters, is “false in its entirety” and part of what it called a pattern of misinformation.
According to the statement, no such directive was made for the governor to step down, adding that Governor Sanwo-Olu remains in good health, mentally sound, and fully engaged in his official duties.
The government also clarified that earlier in the day, the governor received Deputy Governor Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, who visited him to formally notify him of his intention to contest for the position of governor.
It explained that the meeting was cordial and routine in nature, stressing that it had been misrepresented in the circulating report.
While noting that it would ordinarily ignore such claims, the government said it was compelled to respond in order to prevent members of the public from being misled.
The statement urged Nigerians to disregard the report in its entirety, insisting that it is fake news.
“The report is false. Governor Sanwo-Olu is in good health and continues to discharge his responsibilities,” the statement read.
The government reiterated its call for the public to verify information from credible sources and avoid spreading unverified claims.
