A fresh twist has emerged in the build-up to the 2027 general elections, as supporters of Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso unveil a new political pressure group, the Obi–Kwankwaso (OK) Movement, in what signals intensifying jockeying within the opposition bloc.
The movement was formally launched in Abuja on Monday amid rising permutations within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) over who will emerge as its presidential candidate, reports Daily Trust.
The ADC has become a rallying platform for several heavyweight contenders, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Rivers governor Rotimi Amaechi, Obi and Kwankwaso, all of whom have signalled interest in the party’s 2027 presidential ticket.
National Publicity Secretary of the OK Movement, Justin Ijeh, disclosed that the group has already established structures across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, appointing coordinators to drive its agenda nationwide. He described the movement as a coalition drawing strength from the Obidient Movement, Kwankwasiyya network, the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), and the ADC.
Framing the initiative as a response to Nigeria’s current realities, Ijeh said the country is at a “defining crossroads,” citing economic hardship, rising cost of living and insecurity as key drivers behind the mobilisation.
The emergence of the OK Movement underscores a new layer of realignment within the opposition, especially as negotiations intensify over a possible joint ticket. The Obidient Movement’s National Coordinator, Dr. Yunusa Tanko, confirmed alignment, saying the group is working in sync with existing Obi support structures.
“There is no division. Both the OK Movement and The Village Boys Movement are working for the same purpose,” he said, reinforcing the push for a united front ahead of 2027.
