This move is a significant step for national security and education. It’s part of a broader push to decentralize and modernize the training of the Nigeria Police Force.
President Bola Tinubu officially approved the establishment of the new campus in Erinja, Yewa South LGA, Ogun State, on April 20, 2026. The ₦15 billion take-off grant is being sourced from the 2026 TETFund allocation. This money is earmarked for critical infrastructure, including academic buildings, student hostels, and specialized training assets.
This move fulfills the Nigeria Police Academy (Establishment) Act of 2021, which allows the academy (currently based in Wudil, Kano State) to expand into multiple campuses to meet the growing manpower the force needs.
The government is currently in the middle of a multi-year plan to recruit 30,000 officers annually. The Wudil campus alone cannot handle this volume, making the Ogun campus essential for “modern policing education.”
This project is supported by the recently signed ₦68.32 trillion 2026 Budget, which focuses heavily on capital expenditure (about 50%) for infrastructure and national security.
The siting of the campus followed a high-level meeting between the Minister of Police Affairs, the Minister of Education (Dr. Tunji Alausa), and the Inspector-General of Police to ensure the new site meets NUC academic standards.
​This expansion is being framed by the Presidency as a way to “bolster national security” by ensuring officers are trained in a modern, well-equipped environment rather than relying on overstretched facilities.
