The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has officially set the stage for the Nigeria Diaspora Economic Conference (NIDEC) 2026. Announced by NiDCOM Chairman Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the summit is designed to evolve the relationship with the diaspora from one of “familial support” to “venture partnership.”
The summit is scheduled to hold on August 13–15, 2026. Will be taking place at The Apollo Convention Centre, Toronto (Mississauga), Canada. The program theme “Invest Nigeria, Thrive Abroad.”
The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), led by Abike Dabiri-Erewa, is explicitly targeting the $20 billion annual remittance flow. Currently, most of this money goes toward family maintenance and basic needs.
The summit aims to create “structured, outcome-driven” pathways for that capital to enter high-impact sectors like Fintech & Digital Innovation by Leveraging the diaspora’s tech expertise.
Including sectors like agriculture, Real estate, Healthcare & Pharmaceuticals that addresses the infrastructure gap in Nigeria and Energy sector which focus on mining and renewable energy projects.
The summit is being treated as a full-scale celebration of “Nigerian Excellence.” In a historic first, the Headies Awards (Nigeria’s premier music awards) and the Flavours of Nigeria Festival are scheduled to take place in Canada during the same week to coincide with the conference.
To make things easier for delegates, NiDCOM has initiated a specialized Event Code (RRRC) process with the Canadian government to streamline visa processing for legitimate attendees.
