The Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Col. Apollonia Anele, says effective, timely and accurate communication has become a critical force multiplier in combating terrorism and other security challenges.

Anele said this at the inauguration of the Second Quarter Courses for 2026, at the Nigerian Army School of Public Relations and Information (NASPRI), Abuja.

She noted that the evolving nature of modern conflict, particularly the influence of digital and social media platforms, had significantly changed perception about military operations and communication.

“The growing influence of online platforms has shifted public discourse away from traditional gatekeepers, placing greater responsibility on trained communication professionals to shape narratives responsibly and strategically,” she said.

Anele said that the newly inaugurated courses were designed to equip personnel with skills in digital warfare and crisis communication to effectively navigate the complex information environment.

She commended NASPRI for its significant institutional progress and sustained professional development since its establishment in 2010.

In his remarks, the Acting Commandant of NASPRI, Lt.-Col. Shuaib Umar, urged participants to maintain discipline and commitment throughout the training.

He said that the institution would not tolerate indiscipline as it remained focused on delivering high-quality training.

Earlier, the Acting Chief Instructor, Maj. Nureni Alimi, said the curriculum combined theoretical knowledge with practical application to enhance operational readiness.

The inauguration ceremony featured the official commencement of the courses, presentation of souvenirs, a symbolic tree planting exercise, and group photographs.

The event underscored the Nigerian Army’s commitment to strengthening strategic communication as part of its broader counter-terrorism and national security efforts.
