Nigerian rapper and activist, Eedris Abdulkareem, has come under criticism after publicly praising Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, following a recent visit to the state.

In a viral video circulating online, the veteran singer said he decided to tour Edo to assess the situation firsthand and expressed satisfaction with what he saw.

“I went to Edo State to move around and see for myself if the state is truly working. I must sincerely say Governor Monday Okpebholo has done a lot. In the next one or two years, we will see more of his achievements,” he said.

He added, “Most times, if you are not on ground, you won’t know what is really happening. If you are from Edo State and living in the diaspora, you should come back and see what the governor is doing.”

However, his remarks have sparked backlash on social media, with many Nigerians faulting him for commending the governor. Critics argued that it was surprising for the outspoken rapper to rate the governor’s performance so highly, with some insisting that Edo residents are in a better position to assess the administration’s impact.

Reacting, one user wrote: “Dude flew into Edo to tell Edo people living in Edo state that their Governor is working.”

Another user commented: “Eedris I’m disappointed.”

One added: “Isn’t it funny how it takes a non resident’s testimony to try to convince the public?”

One remarked: “Like you really came all the way to try to convince people otherwise of their daily realities??”

“He just wan make the gov open the event centre,” one user noted.

Another user, stated: “The place wey una dey sef be like burial ground.”
