The son of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, Yusuf Buhari is eyeing a seat in the House of Representatives have definitely been making the rounds, especially as the 2027 election cycle begins to take shape.

Following the passing of his father in July 2025, there has been significant speculation about Yusuf carrying on the family’s political legacy.

While there hasn’t been a massive, formal “campaign launch” yet, political circles in Katsina State (specifically the Daura/Sandamu/Mai’Adua federal constituency) have been buzzing with the possibility of his candidacy.

In Nigerian politics, it is quite common for the children of prominent leaders to transition into legislative roles. Given his father’s enduring popularity in the North, Yusuf would likely start with a strong base of support within the APC (All Progressives Congress).

Since his father’s funeral, Yusuf has been more visible in diplomatic and social circles, often seen appreciating state officials for their support during the family’s period of mourning, which many analysts view as a subtle “testing of the waters.” If he intends to run for the 2027 elections, the real movement will start with the APC party primaries.

Support from the current Katsina State government and the influential “Daura Emirate” would be the clearest indicator that the run is official.

It’s worth noting that Yusuf has traditionally been very private, especially after his serious power bike accident years ago, so a move into the high-octane world of the House of Representatives would be a significant shift in his public persona.
