Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji and members of the Ekiti State Council of Elders have expressed deep sorrow over the death of elder statesman and the council’s oldest member, Adebayo Daramola, who passed away on Monday at the age of 98.
Daramola, an Ire Ekiti-born community leader, accomplished statesman, educationist, and former Chairman of Oye Local Government, died peacefully in the early hours, leaving behind a legacy of service, discipline, and educational advancement that spanned nearly a century. His life was marked by dedication to community development and a tireless commitment to fostering knowledge and civic responsibility among generations of Ekiti residents.
Governor Oyebanji, who led a condolence visit to the late Daramola’s residence on Monday, described the elder statesman as a “moral compass whose impactful life shaped generations in Ekiti State.” He highlighted Daramola’s invaluable contributions to education, noting that he was “a towering figure in the educational advancement of Ekiti, a man whose life was a testament to discipline, knowledge, and community building.”
The governor also commiserated with the bereaved family, particularly the sons of the deceased, stressing that Daramola’s passing “marks the end of an era, but his legacy will continue to inspire both present and future generations.” He encouraged the people of Ekiti to reflect on the lessons and values imparted by the late statesman, especially his unwavering commitment to public service, ethical leadership, and the development of local institutions.
Members of the Ekiti State Council of Elders, alongside local leaders and community members, joined the governor in paying tribute to Daramola.
