The Vice-Chancellor of Crawford University, Solomon Makinde, has advised newly admitted students of the institution to shun violence and embrace integrity, discipline, and hard work as they begin a new phase of their academic journey.
Makinde gave the advice on Wednesday during the matriculation ceremony of 917 newly admitted students for the 2025/2026 academic session, noting that the students’ decision to study at Crawford University reflects their confidence in the quality of teaching and learning offered by the institution. He said the university is committed to producing graduates who are not only academically sound but also morally upright and socially responsible.
Addressing the matriculating students, the Vice-Chancellor stressed the importance of obeying the rules and regulations guiding student conduct in the university, warning that the institution maintains zero tolerance for violence, cultism, examination malpractice, and other forms of misconduct. He said discipline and integrity remain key pillars of the university’s academic philosophy and must be upheld by every student.
Makinde explained that the matriculation ceremony marks the formal admission of students into the academic community, adding that it also signifies the beginning of a new responsibility for the students. He noted that university education goes beyond obtaining a degree, stressing that it is a period for character formation, intellectual development, and personal growth.
According to him, each of the newly admitted students represents hope not only for their families but also for the nation and the future. He urged them to remain focused on their studies and invest their time in developing themselves as problem-solvers who will contribute positively to society and add value to humanity.
The Vice-Chancellor also revealed that out of the 917 newly admitted students, 85 were admitted into postgraduate programmes, which he said reflects the growing interest in advanced studies and professional development. He assured the students that the university has put in place the necessary facilities, qualified lecturers, and a conducive learning environment to support their academic success.
Makinde further advised the students to take advantage of the various academic and personal development opportunities available within the university, including research programmes, entrepreneurship training, leadership development initiatives, and community service programmes. He said these activities are designed to prepare students for leadership roles and the challenges of the modern world.
He also encouraged the students to build healthy relationships with their lecturers and fellow students, participate in constructive activities, and avoid negative influences that could derail their academic goals. He reminded them that the choices they make during their university years will significantly shape their future.
The Vice-Chancellor reassured parents and guardians that the university remains committed to maintaining high academic standards and ensuring the safety and well-being of all students. He thanked them for entrusting the institution with the education and development of their children and wards.
Makinde concluded by urging the new students to be good ambassadors of the university, maintain high moral standards, and strive for excellence in their academic pursuits. He expressed confidence that with dedication, discipline, and integrity, the students would graduate successfully and make meaningful contributions to society.
The matriculation ceremony was attended by members of the university management, faculty members, parents, and guardians, marking the official commencement of the academic journey for the new students as members of the Crawford University academic community.
