The All Progressives Congress has announced plans to hold a global media briefing ahead of its 2026 National Convention as part of efforts to outline its preparations and expectations for the high-profile political gathering.

The disclosure was made by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, who also serves as Co-Chairman of the convention’s Media and Publicity Committee. Speaking at a committee meeting on Tuesday, Idris said the press conference, scheduled for Thursday, would provide Nigerians and the international community with key insights into the party’s level of preparedness for the convention.

According to him, the global media briefing is part of a broader communication strategy designed to ensure transparency and proper dissemination of information regarding the convention, which is expected to attract party leaders, delegates, observers and political stakeholders from across Nigeria and beyond.

Idris urged members of the Media and Publicity Committee to work collaboratively to ensure the success of the media engagement, emphasizing the need for unity, sacrifice and discipline in communicating the party’s message to the public. He noted that the success of the convention would depend not only on logistics and planning but also on effective communication and public engagement.

The Minister stressed that the All Progressives Congress must continue to reflect strong internal democratic values, noting that the party’s leadership has consistently adhered to due process in its internal processes, including congresses, primaries and conventions.

Political observers say the planned global media briefing indicates the importance the party is attaching to the 2026 National Convention, which is expected to shape the party’s leadership structure and political direction ahead of future elections. The convention is also expected to serve as a platform for reviewing party policies, strengthening internal structures and reaffirming the party’s political agenda.

The media briefing, according to Idris, will also be used to address public concerns, clarify issues surrounding the convention, and highlight the achievements of the party at both the national and state levels. He explained that the party leadership wants to ensure that accurate information is made available to the public and that misinformation is avoided.

He further stated that members of the Media and Publicity Committee must remain committed to professionalism and accuracy in their duties, as the image of the party would be shaped by how effectively information about the convention is communicated to the public.

The All Progressives Congress leadership believes that the forthcoming National Convention will be a significant event in the party’s history, and preparations are being intensified to ensure that the event is well-organised, transparent and successful.

As preparations continue, party officials say the global media briefing will mark the beginning of a series of activities lined up ahead of the convention, which is expected to draw significant attention within Nigeria’s political landscape. The briefing is expected to provide a clearer picture of the party’s plans, organisational readiness, and expectations for the convention, while also reinforcing its commitment to internal democracy and party unity.
