The member representing Isiala Ngwa North and South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Ginger Onwusibe, has said that the Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, will not oppose the second-term re-election bid of President Bola Tinubu.
Onwusibe made the statement on Sunday at Lohum Umuimenyi in Bende Local Government Area during the flag-off of “Project Switch On Bende,” an initiative facilitated by the Abia State Chief Liaison Officer in Abuja, Chief Frank Chinasa. The event attracted political stakeholders, community leaders, and residents who gathered to witness the launch of the project aimed at improving electricity supply in the area.
Speaking during the event, Onwusibe said that both President Tinubu and Governor Otti have demonstrated strong leadership through their performance in office and therefore deserve a second term to continue their developmental efforts. He noted that his support for the president’s re-election was his personal opinion but insisted that the political reality in Abia State suggests that the governor would not stand against Tinubu’s second-term ambition.
According to the lawmaker, Governor Otti remains a strategic political figure in Abia State with the structure and influence capable of delivering significant electoral support for the president if he decides to seek re-election. He stressed that performance and good governance should be the major criteria for leadership continuity rather than political party differences.
Onwusibe said the ongoing development projects in Abia State under Governor Otti have changed the political narrative in the state, adding that many residents are beginning to appreciate the importance of continuity in governance when visible development is taking place. He argued that when leaders perform well, they naturally earn the trust and support of the people.
The lawmaker also used the occasion to highlight the importance of the “Project Switch On Bende,” noting that electricity remains a critical driver of economic growth, small business development, and improved living standards. He said the project would boost economic activities in Bende and surrounding communities by providing more stable power supply for artisans, traders, and small-scale industries.
Community leaders present at the event expressed gratitude to the facilitators of the project, stating that electricity has been one of the major challenges facing the area for years. They said the project would help reduce the cost of doing business and improve security in the community.
Political observers say Onwusibe’s statement may further shape political alignments ahead of the next general elections, especially in Abia State where political dynamics have continued to evolve in recent years. His comments suggest the possibility of political cooperation across party lines, particularly if such cooperation is seen as beneficial to development both at the state and federal levels.
