As Muslims prepare to mark Eid al-Fitr, the Nigeria Police Force in Bauchi State has moved to calm public anxiety, rolling out a comprehensive security plan aimed at ensuring residents celebrate in peace.
The assurance came from the Commissioner of Police in the state, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, through a statement released on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Nafiu Habib.
According to the statement, the command has activated an expansive operational strategy that will see increased police visibility across major towns, highways, worship centres, and recreational spots throughout the Sallah period.
Habib explained that directives had already been issued to Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and Tactical Commanders to step up patrols and intensify intelligence-led operations. The move, he noted, is part of a proactive effort to deter criminal activities and respond swiftly to any emerging threats before, during, and after the celebrations.
The police spokesman highlighted that particular attention would be paid to crimes commonly associated with festive periods. These include “sara-suka” violence—often linked to youth clashes—alongside phone snatching, pickpocketing, and traffic-related offences, which tend to spike when large crowds gather.
Residents of Bauchi State have in the past expressed concerns over such incidents during major celebrations, making the police reassurance a timely intervention as families prepare for prayers, visits, and social gatherings.
Beyond patrols, the command is also deploying covert operatives and strengthening intelligence networks to monitor suspicious movements. This layered approach, officials say, is designed not only to respond to crime but to prevent it altogether.
The statement further urged members of the public to cooperate with security agencies by remaining vigilant and reporting any unusual activities in their communities. Citizens were encouraged to make use of emergency lines and maintain orderly conduct throughout the festive period.
In addition, motorists were advised to adhere strictly to traffic regulations, as officers would be stationed at strategic points to manage vehicular movement and prevent accidents, especially in busy areas.
While acknowledging the importance of celebration, the police emphasized that public safety remains a shared responsibility. Habib noted that community support is critical to the success of the security arrangements, adding that the command is committed to professionalism and respect for citizens’ rights in the course of its duties.
The renewed security push reflects a broader effort by law enforcement authorities to build public confidence and ensure that festivities are not overshadowed by avoidable incidents.
