The Police Command in Niger, says it has deployed over 500 personnel for a hitch-free Eid-el-Fitr celebration in the state.
This is contained in a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, on Tuesday in Minna.
According to him, the CP of the Command, Adamu Elleman, had directed HODs, AC, Tactical Commanders, Intelligence Unit and DPOs to deploy personnel for intelligence-led policing and raid of blackspots within their areas of responsibility.
He added that the deployment was occasioned by the forthcoming Eid-el-Fitr celebration to ensure a seamless and peaceful celebration.
He further directed officers to mobilise operational assets such as Anti-riot water canons, gun trucks, patrol vehicles and ensure massive deployment of Police personnel for visibility policing show of force with other security agencies.
“This is to enable them dominate public space for a tight security arrangement before, during and after the festivity,” he said.
Elleman also directed Tactical Commanders to ensure sufficient deployment of tactical teams such as the Police Mobile Force (PMF), Counter-Terrorism Unit (CTU), and Explosive Ordinance Disposal.
Others are: Chemical Biological Radiological/ Nuclear (EOD-CBRN), Tactical Support Team (TST), Monitoring Unit, Crack Squad, Anti-Thuggery Unit and Anti-Kidnapping Unit (AKU) of the Command to all major Eid grounds and other strategic public places for security coverage.
“Consequently, an Operation Order has been drawn and issued to ACs, Tactical Commanders and DPOs of their specific responsibility to provide reliable security coverage and ensure free flow of traffic at every assigned Eid grounds.
“There should be thorough supervision of men deployed in conformity with standard operating procedures,” he added.
The Command hereby advised members of the public, parents and guardians to celebrate responsibly.
While ensuring a firm grip of their wards, and prevail on them as the Police and other security agencies would not tolerate any act of thuggery and youth disorder during and after the celebration.
It therefore, warned that anyone found fomenting trouble would be dealt with in accordance with the law.
The CP felicitated with the people of Niger and Muslim Ummah in the state on the occasion of Eidel-Fitr, which connotes sacrifice, love, and tolerance.
He urged the Muslim Ummah across the state to abide by the teachings of Ramadan, while wishing them a joyous and hitch-free celebration.
