President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the Renewed Hope Ambassadors to begin the distribution of rice to Nigerians across the country as part of support measures for citizens observing the ongoing Ramadan and Lenten seasons.

The nationwide initiative was disclosed in a statement issued on Saturday by the Director-General of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors and Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma. According to him, the intervention is designed to assist families during the fasting period while also promoting unity among Nigerians of different faiths.

Uzodimma said the programme reflects the president’s commitment to compassion and inclusiveness, especially during a time when Muslims and Christians engage in spiritual reflection through fasting and prayers.

He explained that the distribution would be carried out through the grassroots network of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors across the country. The structure, which spans states, local government areas and wards, is expected to ensure that the food items reach vulnerable households and communities in need.

According to the statement, the intervention aligns with the spirit of generosity and solidarity that characterises both the Ramadan and Lenten seasons, periods traditionally associated with charity, sacrifice and support for the less privileged.

Uzodimma noted that volunteers and coordinators at different levels have already been mobilised to oversee the process, adding that the goal is to ensure an orderly and transparent distribution exercise nationwide.

He further called on beneficiaries and community leaders to cooperate with coordinators to guarantee that the rice gets to intended recipients, particularly families facing economic hardship.

The governor emphasised that beyond providing relief, the initiative also serves as a reminder of the importance of unity and mutual support among Nigerians, regardless of religious or ethnic differences.

Ramadan is a sacred period for Muslims marked by fasting from dawn to sunset, prayer and charitable giving, while the Lenten season is observed by Christians as a time of fasting, reflection and preparation for Easter.

The Renewed Hope Ambassadors said the distribution exercise will commence immediately and continue throughout the fasting period, reaching communities in all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
