The goal is to set the Guinness World Record for the “Most photos of people wearing Adire patterned clothing” taken in a single hour.
They are aiming for at least 2,000 unique photos, Tomorrow being Saturday, March 14, 2026.
Taking place at the Waterfront of the Oriental Hotel, Lagos. Ruby Agwu, musician, actress, and co-founder of Ajoyo NG, shared that the inspiration behind this is cultural preservation.
The initiative seeks to officially document the origins of Adire—specifically its roots in
Abeokuta and Osogbo—to ensure the history of the Yoruba women artisans who created the craft isn’t “lost in translation” as the fabric gains international popularity.
By using a modern platform like Guinness World Records, they hope to make traditional Nigerian history relevant to a global, contemporary audience.
For the record to stand, the clothing must feature the traditional resist-dyeing techniques like, Adire Oniko; Using raffia to tie the fabric.
Adire Eleko; Using cocoa or starch paste to create patterns and Adire Alabere; Using needlework to resist the dye.
