The Federal Government has expressed dissatisfaction with the quality of work being carried out by Wizchino Engineering Limited on the Keffi–Nasarawa–Toto–Abaji road project in Nasarawa State.
Government officials also criticised the slow pace of the construction despite funds already released to the contractor to ensure the timely execution of the project.
The concerns were raised on Friday by the Federal Controller of Works in Nasarawa State, Ishaku Mamri, during an inspection tour of ongoing Federal Government road projects across the state.
Speaking with journalists shortly after assessing the progress of work on the road, Mamri said the contractor had not been delivering according to the standards expected by the government. He noted that several efforts had been made by officials of the ministry to ensure that the company adheres strictly to project specifications.
According to him, despite repeated engagements and directives, the contractor has not shown the level of cooperation required to move the project forward at the desired pace.
Mamri stressed that the priority of the Federal Ministry of Works is to ensure that all roads constructed under the supervision of the Federal Government meet high quality standards and are durable enough to serve Nigerians for many years.
He explained that road infrastructure plays a crucial role in economic development, facilitating the movement of goods and people, and improving connectivity between communities.
The controller further warned that contractors handling federal projects must strictly comply with construction standards and contractual obligations, adding that the ministry would not tolerate substandard work.
Mamri also emphasised that the government is committed to ensuring value for public funds spent on infrastructure projects, noting that contractors must deliver work that reflects the resources invested.
The Keffi–Nasarawa–Toto–Abaji road is considered an important route that connects several communities and supports economic activities in the region. However, delays and concerns about construction quality have raised fears among residents and road users about the timeline for the project’s completion.
Officials of the ministry said they would continue to monitor the progress of the project closely and ensure that the contractor takes the necessary steps to improve the quality and speed of work in line with government expectations.
