The National Assembly has indeed shifted its resumption date for the second time in many weeks.
Initially, the Senate and the House of Representatives were scheduled to return on February 24, but that was moved to March 5. Now, the official resumption has been set for Tuesday, March 10, 2026.
While the formal memo signed by the Clerk, Kamoru Ogunlana, didn’t provide a specific reason for this latest shift, earlier delays were attributed to ongoing 2026 budget defense sessions.
There is significant talk that the extension allows lawmakers—particularly those in the ruling APC—to participate in state
congresses and manage internal party dynamics ahead of the 2027 election cycle.
Once they return on the 10th, the priority will be finalizing the 2026 Appropriation Bill and addressing the harmonized Electoral Act (Amendment) Bill.
Despite the plenary being on hold, various committees have still been active behind the scenes conducting oversight and screening exercises.
