The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has officially transitioned to a 100% cashless system across all airport revenue points nationwide. While some internal memos noted the deadline as February 28, 2026 (or February 29 in some reports), the policy is fully in effect as of March 1, 2026.
​This move, titled “Operation Go Cashless,” is designed to modernize airport operations and eliminate revenue leakages.
The ban applies to all FAAN-managed revenue points, including access gates, car parks, lounges, and other service points.
Both Naira and foreign currency (physical cash) are no longer accepted for official transactions.
FAAN Managing Director, Olubunmi Kuku, has emphasized a “no going back” stance. Staff found accepting cash face stiff penalties, and revenue points have been equipped with Point of Sale (POS) terminals.
Payments can be made via the official FAAN Go Cashless website.
These are dedicated contactless cards that can be obtained at airport access gates and funded online.
FAAN has partnered with platforms like Paystack to facilitate secure, traceable electronic transfers. It creates a digital audit trail to prevent the diversion of funds.
