The Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Capital Territory Command, Olusola Odumosu, on Saturday cautioned officers against accidental discharges as they monitor and secure voters during the ongoing FCT Area Council elections. Addressing personnel deployed across the six Area Councils ahead of the polls, Odumosu stressed the importance of professionalism and discipline in the discharge of their responsibilities.
He specifically directed officers to avoid “accidental discharges” while on election duty and to conduct themselves responsibly throughout the electoral process, noting that their conduct would reflect on the integrity of the Corps and the credibility of the exercise. More than 1.5 million registered voters in the Federal Capital Territory are participating in the elections to choose chairmen and councillors across the six Area Councils — Abuja Municipal Area Council, Bwari, Gwagwalada, Kuje, Abaji, and Kwali.
A total of 68 positions are being contested in the elections, comprising six chairmanship seats and 62 councillorship positions. The NSCDC commandant assured residents of adequate security coverage, urging voters to conduct themselves peacefully and cooperate with security agencies to ensure a smooth and credible electoral process.
