The Youth Party has called for the systematic testing of electronic transmission of election results during off-cycle polls, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement, the party observed that Nigeria continues to grapple with uneven internet penetration and inconsistent electricity supply, factors it said could affect the reliability of electronic result transmission if not properly tested under real conditions.
The Youth Party recommended that every off-cycle election between now and the 2027 general election should serve as a structured pilot phase for electronic transmission systems. According to the party, such an approach would allow the electoral body to stress-test the technology in both urban and rural environments.
It added that pilot testing would help assess system performance, train ad hoc personnel, refine logistics, and strengthen incident-response mechanisms before the technology is deployed nationwide during a general election.
“Technology improves through iteration. That’s how every serious system in the world is developed. We should not treat a general election as the first full-scale experiment,” the party stated.
The party maintained that adopting a phased and data-driven approach would boost public confidence in the electoral process and reduce the risk of technical failures during high-stakes national polls.
Nigeria’s electoral reforms in recent years have placed increasing emphasis on technology-driven processes, particularly in result management and transparency, as stakeholders continue to debate ways to strengthen the credibility of elections.
