Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has expressed confidence that Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, and members of the State House of Assembly will adhere to the agreements reached through the intervention of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to resolve the lingering political crisis in the state.
Wike spoke in Abuja yesterday after inspecting several ongoing projects across the nation’s capital. He described President Tinubu as a unifying leader whose timely intervention was crucial in calming tensions between the executive and legislative arms of government in Rivers State.
According to the FCT minister, the president’s role in bringing key stakeholders together underscores his commitment to peace, stability and good governance, not only in Rivers State but across the country.
Wike disclosed that, as part of the renewed understanding brokered by President Tinubu, Governor Fubara is expected to forward a list of commissioner-nominees to the Rivers State House of Assembly this week for screening and confirmation. He said the move is a significant step toward restoring normalcy and ensuring the smooth functioning of government in the state.
The former Rivers State governor also confirmed that President Tinubu hosted him, Governor Fubara, the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly and some prominent elders from the state at the Presidential Villa on Sunday night. He noted that the meeting provided a platform for frank discussions and reconciliation among all parties involved in the crisis.
Wike expressed optimism that the agreements reached would be respected by all sides, stressing that peace and cooperation are essential for the development of Rivers State and the well-being of its people.
He added that with the president’s guidance and the willingness of stakeholders to embrace dialogue, the political impasse in Rivers State would soon be fully resolved, allowing governance to take centre stage once again.
