The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, in collaboration with the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Women’s Health (OSSAP-WH), has initiated plans to coordinate comprehensive interventions aimed at tackling challenges affecting Nigerian women.
Senior Special Assistant to the President on Women’s Health, Dr. Adanna Steinacker, revealed the development on Tuesday during a strategic meeting with a coalition of women leaders, representatives of women’s groups, and non-governmental organizations in Abuja. The session, convened by the Ministry and facilitated by OSSAP-WH, provided a platform for stakeholders to deliberate on actionable solutions to improve women’s health across the country.
Dr. Steinacker emphasized that her office is adopting a nationwide strategy to ensure that women’s health is central to Nigeria’s national development agenda. “We are committed to ensuring that every Nigerian woman has access to quality healthcare services. Women’s health is not just a health issue; it is a development issue,” she stated.
The meeting brought together diverse voices from across Nigeria, including grassroots women’s organizations and health advocacy groups, highlighting the government’s resolve to create inclusive policies that address both medical and socio-economic barriers affecting women.
Officials noted that the coordinated interventions would focus on maternal health, reproductive health, preventive care, and health education, among other key areas. Stakeholders at the meeting also stressed the importance of sustained collaboration between government agencies, civil society, and community leaders to achieve lasting impact.
With these initiatives, the Federal Ministry of Health and OSSAP-WH aim to strengthen healthcare delivery for women and ensure that their well-being is recognized as a critical component of Nigeria’s social and economic progress.
