Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has assured residents that the over 50-kilometre Port Harcourt Ring Road project will be completed and delivered by October this year, describing the project as a critical intervention to decongest traffic and boost economic activities across the state. The governor gave the assurance on Tuesday while addressing journalists after an on-the-spot inspection of the ongoing construction works.
The massive infrastructure project cuts across about five local government areas and is expected to significantly improve connectivity within the Port Harcourt metropolis and adjoining communities. Governor Fubara reaffirmed his determination to see the project through to completion, noting that the road holds special significance, having been initiated under the administration of his predecessor, Nyesom Wike.
He recalled that Wike had often expressed the hope that the successful delivery of the ring road would earn the appreciation and lasting gratitude of the people of Rivers State. According to Fubara, his administration remains committed to sustaining the vision behind the project, stressing that continuity in governance is essential for meaningful development. He said the ring road, when completed, would not only ease traffic congestion but also enhance the movement of goods and services, reduce travel time, and open up new economic corridors for businesses and investors.
The governor disclosed that Julius Berger Nigeria Limited, the construction company handling the project, has reaffirmed its readiness to meet the October completion timeline. However, he noted that timely delivery would depend largely on the steady release of funds to support uninterrupted construction work. Fubara assured residents that his government would continue to prioritise the project and ensure that financial commitments are met, adding that the administration remains focused on delivering infrastructure that directly improves the quality of life of the people.
He urged Rivers residents to remain patient and supportive as construction continues, assuring them that the temporary inconveniences being experienced would give way to long-term benefits once the road is completed and opened for use.
