President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday opened the doors of the State House, Abuja, to top United States military officials as Nigeria and the U.S. deepened discussions on security cooperation.
The meeting brought together a high-powered delegation from the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM), led by its Commander, General Dagvin Anderson, marking another step in the long-standing defence partnership between both countries.
Details of the visit were made public by the President’s Special Assistant on Social Media, Dada Olusegun, who shared updates via his official X (formerly Twitter) account. He noted that the engagement attracted Nigeria’s highest security leadership, underscoring the strategic importance of the discussions.
Present at the meeting were the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, alongside the nation’s Service Chiefs, who joined President Tinubu in welcoming General Anderson and members of his team. The Charge d’Affaires of the United States Embassy in Nigeria, Mr. Keith Heffern, was also in attendance.
While specific details of the talks were not disclosed, the presence of senior military and security officials from both sides signalled ongoing collaboration on regional security, counter-terrorism efforts, and stability across Africa.
The visit highlights Nigeria’s continued engagement with international partners as the Tinubu administration seeks to strengthen national security and address evolving security challenges within the country and the wider region.
