The Nigerian Army has debunked reports circulating on social media claiming that two soldiers were killed and a military patrol vehicle set ablaze during the ongoing Amasiri/Oso Edda communal crisis in Ebonyi State.
The Army described the reports as false and misleading, stressing that no soldier lost his life and no operational vehicle was destroyed in the course of security operations in the area.
The clarification followed recent violence linked to the protracted communal dispute, which reportedly resulted in the death of five indigenes of Idima Okporojo Village in Oso Edda, Edda Local Government Area of the state.
Briefing journalists on the situation, the Cantonment Commander of Nkwagu Military Barracks, Lt. Col. Emmanuel Chielo, said troops were deployed to the affected communities to prevent further escalation and protect lives and property.
According to him, the military, in collaboration with other security agencies, has continued patrols and confidence-building operations to restore calm, while engaging community leaders and stakeholders to encourage dialogue and peaceful coexistence.
Lt. Col. Chielo urged members of the public to disregard unverified information on social media, noting that such reports could heighten tension and undermine ongoing peace efforts.
He further assured residents of the Army’s commitment to maintaining law and order in Ebonyi State, adding that security agencies would remain on ground until lasting peace is achieved in the crisis-hit areas.
