UMUAHIA – The leadership of the Abiriba Communal Improvement Union (ACIU) Worldwide, led by the President General, Chief Yuccee Ottah Uwah (Ike Abiriba), has successfully secured the commitment of the Abia State Government to permanently resolve the electricity crisis in Abiriba and commence immediate works on the Akahaba General Hospital.

This assurance was given on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, during a strategic courtesy visit by the ACIU executives and stakeholders to the Executive Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti (OFR), at the Government House, Umuahia.

Effective Representation In a robust presentation, the President General, Chief Yuccee Ottah Uwah, laid bare the critical challenges facing the Ancient Kingdom. He presented the Governor with graphic architectural evidence of the rampaging erosion sites at Ogbu, Uzo Nde Okoronta, and Agboji, which currently threaten lives and property.

Chief Uwah further championed the cause for the Restoration of Light, emphasizing that while the Governor has done marvelously well with the Umuahia-Abiriba road, the full economic potential of the “Small London” of Abia State can only be unleashed when power is restored.

The Governor’s Response: A New Dawn for Abiriba Responding to the demands of the ACIU, Governor Otti commended the leadership of the community for their organized approach and unity. He made the following specific declarations:

On Power Supply: The Governor assured the ACIU that a “permanent structure” is currently being put in place to solve the power problem not just for Abiriba, but for the entire Abia North. He confirmed that the solution is imminent.

On Akahaba General Hospital: The Governor revealed that the new design for the complete remodeling of the hospital has been finalized and approved. He promised that construction work would commence shortly to restore the facility to a centre of excellence.

On Erosion: He directed that the Ministry of Environment and relevant agencies be mobilized immediately to assess and intervene in the flashpoints identified by the ACIU President.

A Challenge to Abiriba Investors: Star Paper Mill In a major show of confidence in the Abiriba entrepreneurial spirit, Governor Otti informed the delegation that the State Government has fully re-acquired the Star Paper Mill (formerly owned by the late Chief Nnanna Kalu) from AMCON. The Governor threw an open challenge to the ACIU leadership: he is ready to hand over the running of the factory to capable Abiriba investors to preserve the legacy of the founder, preferring local investors over foreign interests.

Strategic Partnership The President General also briefed the Governor on the outcome of the ACIU Diaspora meeting held on December 29th, assuring him that Abiriba sons and daughters abroad are mobilizing to bring factories home to complement the government’s security and infrastructure efforts.

Vote of Confidence Notable stakeholder and former SSG, Prof. Mkpa Agu Mkpa, thanked the Governor for his swift response to the community’s needs. He noted that the current administration has achieved in “two years what previous administrations could not achieve in 24 years,” citing the efficiency of the civil service and the seamless processing of land titles as evidence of a working government.
