In a move aimed at strengthening transparency and modernising examination processes, the Lagos State Government has begun preparations for the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) with the launch of a fully digital registration and payment system.

The new e-registration exercise, which applies to both public and private junior secondary schools across the state, is scheduled to run from Monday, January 26, to Friday, March 27, 2026.

Coordinated by the Lagos State Examinations Board, the initiative is designed to eliminate physical interaction between school owners and examination officials — a step the government says will reduce bottlenecks, curb irregularities and improve accountability.

According to a statement released by the state government on Tuesday via its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, the online process will ensure a smoother and more efficient experience for schools participating in the examination.

“The Lagos State Government, through the Lagos State Examinations Board, has announced the commencement of Year 2026 e-Registration and Payment of the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE),” the statement read. “The exercise is scheduled to begin on Monday, 26th January 2026 and end on Friday, 27th March 2026.”

Education officials explained that the digital platform allows schools to complete registration and payments remotely, aligning with the state’s broader push toward technology-driven governance in the education sector.

With the countdown to the 2026 BECE now underway, schools are expected to complete the process within the stipulated period to ensure eligible candidates are captured for the examination.
