The Federal Government has expressed pride in the Super Eagles despite their narrow defeat to Morocco on penalties at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The commendation was contained in a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, who praised the national team for their commitment and spirited performance throughout the tournament.
Idris thanked the Super Eagles for giving their all and representing Nigeria with pride and dignity on the continental stage, noting that the outcome of the match did not diminish the team’s efforts or achievements.
“Even in defeat, you showed character, teamwork and resilience, and those qualities matter deeply to the nation you represent,” the minister said.
He acknowledged that football is filled with both triumphs and setbacks, stressing that the team’s fighting spirit and determination throughout the competition had earned them the admiration and gratitude of Nigerians at home and in the diaspora.
According to the minister, the Super Eagles’ performance reflected the strength, unity and resilience of the Nigerian spirit, adding that the Federal Government remains supportive of the team as they build on the experience for future competitions.
He urged the players and technical crew to remain focused and motivated, assuring them of the nation’s continued backing as they strive for greater success in international football.
