Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has directed the inter-ministerial committee overseeing the international airport status of Victor Attah Airport to ensure that all necessary benchmarks are met ahead of the facility’s scheduled operational take-off in April 2026.
The directive comes following the Federal Government’s upgrade of Victor Attah Airport to international status last year, a move that allows the facility to begin processing international passengers this year.
Governor Eno emphasized the importance of meeting regulatory, operational, and safety standards to ensure a smooth launch, urging the committee to work diligently to make the airport fully compliant with international aviation requirements.
In addition, the governor tasked the state’s committee on the Treasury Single Account (TSA) to ensure the full implementation of the TSA for all Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) in Akwa Ibom.
He noted that effective TSA implementation would enhance transparency, improve financial accountability, and strengthen the state’s revenue management system.
Governor Eno expressed optimism that both initiatives—the operationalisation of the international airport and the full TSA implementation—would contribute significantly to economic growth, attract investment, and improve service delivery in the state.
He called on all relevant agencies and stakeholders to collaborate effectively to meet timelines and ensure that Akwa Ibom sets a benchmark for excellence in both aviation and public financial management.
