The Federal Government has announced new measures aimed at curbing examination malpractices during the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and the National Examinations Council (NECO) examinations.
The measures were disclosed by the Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, and the Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Ahmed, as part of ongoing reforms in the education sector. Among the modalities introduced is the implementation of enhanced question randomisation and serialisation mechanisms, designed to make examination papers more secure and reduce the chances of leakage, impersonation and collusion among candidates.
According to the ministers, the new strategies will ensure that examination questions are presented in varied formats and sequences, even within the same examination centre, thereby making it more difficult for candidates to engage in malpractice.
The Federal Government said the initiative is part of broader efforts to strengthen the credibility, transparency and integrity of the nation’s examination assessment system, while restoring public confidence in the conduct and outcomes of WAEC and NECO examinations.
The ministers reaffirmed the government’s commitment to upholding global best practices in assessment and evaluation, stressing that stakeholders, including examination bodies, schools and security agencies, would be fully engaged to ensure effective implementation of the new measures.
