The Chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS), Dr. Zacch Adedeji, has reassured Nigerians that the newly introduced tax reform framework will not be used to marginalize political opponents or target individuals based on their political affiliations.
Speaking during an interview on the Arise TV programme ThisDay Live, Dr. Adedeji addressed concerns that the new tax regime could be weaponized for selective enforcement or politically motivated scrutiny of tax compliance records.
He described such fears as “misdirected,” emphasizing that the reforms are designed with national interest and institutional accountability in mind. “Our approach to tax reform is guided by transparency, due process, and a commitment to building strong and credible institutions,” he said.
Dr. Adedeji further highlighted that the administration’s focus is on ensuring fairness in tax administration and enhancing revenue generation to support national development, rather than targeting any individual or political group.
The NRS chairman’s comments come amid public discussions on the implications of the new tax framework, with officials reiterating that the reforms are intended to strengthen Nigeria’s tax system and improve compliance through credible and transparent processes.
