Cameroon have booked their place in the quarter-finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), joining fellow heavyweights Morocco, Mali and Senegal in the last eight of the tournament.

The Indomitable Lions sealed their passage on Sunday night in Rabat after edging South Africa 2-1 in a closely contested Round of 16 encounter.

Cameroon took control of the game in the 34th minute when Junior Tchamadeu broke the deadlock with a well-taken goal that rewarded their early dominance. The five-time African champions came out firing after the break and doubled their advantage just two minutes into the second half, with Christian Kofane finishing calmly to put them in a strong position.

South Africa pushed hard for a way back into the game and were handed a lifeline late on when Evidence Makgopa pulled one back in the 88th minute, setting up a nervy finish.

However, Cameroon showed composure and experience in the closing moments, soaking up the pressure to see out the result and confirm their place in the quarter-finals of the competition.
