The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Saturday advised the traditional ruler and first Amanyanabo of Okochiri Kingdom to refrain from involvement in Rivers State politics.

Wike gave the advice during a visit to the monarch’s palace as part of his “thank you” tour of Okrika Local Government Area. The former Rivers State governor has been visiting various local government areas in the state to express appreciation to supporters and stakeholders.

Addressing the traditional ruler, Wike noted that political activities would soon commence in Rivers State, stressing the need for the monarch to remain neutral and focus on maintaining peace and stability within his domain.

According to the minister, traditional institutions play a critical role in fostering unity at the grassroots and should not be drawn into partisan politics, especially at a time when political tensions are expected to rise.

Wike also stated that decisions had already been taken on how to address the pressing political issues currently confronting the state, assuring that the steps taken were aimed at safeguarding peace and order.

He urged the Amanyanabo to continue to promote harmony among his people and ensure that Okochiri Kingdom remains peaceful as the political season approaches.
