The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has said the people of Rivers State will not repeat what he described as a leadership mistake in the 2027 general elections.
Wike made the remark on Tuesday during a thank-you visit to the people of Khana in Bori, Khana Local Government Area of the state. He said the visit was to express gratitude to the community for its continued support and solidarity over the years.
Although he noted that the visit was not political, the former Rivers State governor said the people had learned valuable lessons from past leadership choices and would not hand over power again to individuals who failed to show appreciation after being given the opportunity to serve.
According to him, leadership is built on trust, gratitude and performance, stressing that any leader who forgets the people after assuming office does not deserve a second chance.
He added that Rivers people are now more politically conscious and determined to protect their collective interest. Wike urged the people of Khana to remain united and vigilant, saying their strength lies in standing together to defend good governance and accountable leadership.
He also commended the community for its resilience and support for development initiatives in the area. The minister assured the people that, despite his current role at the federal level, he would continue to identify with Rivers State and work for the progress of its communities, calling on residents to stay focused on peace and development as the 2027 elections approach.
