Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has paid glowing tribute to the late former governor of the state, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, describing him as a visionary leader whose legacy continues to inspire good governance and progressive leadership.
The governor made this known in a statement made available to newsmen on Saturday in Akure to commemorate the second anniversary of Akeredolu’s passing.
Aiyedatiwa said the late governor’s contributions to the development of Ondo State and the South-West region remained enduring, noting that Akeredolu demonstrated uncommon courage and foresight in tackling critical national issues, particularly security.
According to him, the former governor was a foremost advocate of state policing and played a pivotal role in mobilising governors in the South-West to establish the South-West Security Network, popularly known as the Amotekun Corps, to address security challenges and protect lives and property across the region.
He added that Akeredolu’s leadership style was marked by integrity, firmness and a deep commitment to the rule of law, qualities that distinguished him as a statesman and defender of democratic values.
The governor described Akeredolu as a leader whose passion for justice, equity and the protection of his people transcended partisan politics, stressing that his vision continues to guide governance in Ondo State.
Aiyedatiwa urged residents of the state to honour the late governor’s memory by upholding peace, unity and dedication to public service, noting that Akeredolu’s ideals remain relevant in the ongoing quest for security and development in Nigeria.
