In a significant political development, six members of the House of Representatives from Rivers State have officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The defectors include Hon. Dum Dekor, Hon. Solomon Bob, Hon. Hart Cyril Godwin, Hon. Engr. Victor Obuzor, Hon. Blessing Amadi, and Hon. Felix Nweke.
Their letters of defection were formally presented and read during plenary on Tuesday by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen.
The move comes amid growing political realignments in Rivers State, where the APC has been seeking to strengthen its presence ahead of future elections.
While the motivations for the defections have not been extensively detailed, political observers suggest that issues such as party ideology, development priorities, and strategic alliances may have influenced the lawmakers’ decision.
The Speaker, while acknowledging the submission of the defection letters, urged the House to continue fostering unity and working towards the legislative agenda irrespective of party affiliation.
The PDP has yet to issue an official response regarding the mass defection. Meanwhile, the APC has welcomed the new members, describing the development as a boost to the party’s legislative strength and influence in Rivers State.
This development marks one of the largest shifts in party allegiance among Rivers State lawmakers in recent years, highlighting the fluid nature of Nigeria’s political landscape.
