The investigative committee set up thereafter is still within the timeframe given to submit its report but even before the committee has had any meeting, Nigerians have gone ahead to write the report based on whatever version they believe they are holding.
Like Taiwo Oyedele stated in the recent ChannelsTV interview, there are some “discrepancies” being circulated on social media such as the 20% deposit for disputed assessments but according to him, that was in the draft/working document but did not make it to the final gazette!
Of course, this is a very important matter, but as those who allege must be allowed to prove, Nigerians should let the committee do its work and submit the relevant report first.
We hope it’s not a storm in a teacup but if indeed there are grounds for concern arising from the committee’s report, then those culpable should be dealt with as provided for in our laws among other measures.
Implementation can subsequently be delayed till Q2 2026 at the latest to address the areas of concern and update/re-gazette the Tax Laws accordingly.
