A horrifying act of violence has shaken Goska community in Kaninkon Ward, Kafanchan, Jama’a Local Government Area of Kaduna State, after a 15-year-old girl, Endurance Sabo, had her hand brutally cut off for one unforgivable “CR!M£”: her family refused to hand her over for a forced marriage.
This is not just a story, this is a scream, this is a wound bl££ding into the conscience of our nation.
What began as an ordinary day of farm work turned into a nightmare that will haunt Endurance for the rest of her life.
According to sources, at about 10:00 a.m. on Friday, Endurance, her mother, and other relatives were working on their family farm when suspected Fulani herdsmen approached them, they demanded that the young girl be given to one of them in marriage, repeatedly emphasizing her beauty and calling her by name.
Her mother, shocked and confused, initially thought they were joking, unknown to her they were not.
According to a family source, the men persisted, speaking insistently and ominously. Unbeknownst to the family, the attackers allegedly trailed them for hours, hiding in nearby bushes, waiting patiently for darkness.
By 6:30 p.m after they have finished their work and waited for an okada, the family made their way home on foot while waiting for a motorcycle, the ambush was sprung.
“They rushed us suddenly. The older women fell, they flashed a torchlight and realised she was not the girl they wanted, then they searched again… and found Endurance,” a family member recounted.
Endurance was dragged into the forest by the Fulani men what followed was sheer barbarity.
Inside the forest, the attackers unleashed unspeakable violence. Endurance’s hand was severely cut, leaving her bleeding and broken.
A child, Mutilated, for refusing ownership of her own life.
She was rushed to General Hospital, Kafanchan, then referred to a private facility for emergency care. Due to the severity of the injury, she has since been transferred to the Jos University Teaching Hospital, where doctors are battling to stabilize her condition.
The family confirmed that five suspects have been arrested in connection with the attack, though the group reportedly consisted of about nine men.
Residents of Goska community say threats linked to forced marriages, banditry, and insecur!ty are no longer rumors—they are a daily reality. Parents now look at their daughters not just with love, but with fear.
In a show of concern, the PDP Chairman of Jama’a Local Government, Hon. Hassan Yaro Jashua, visited Endurance at the General Hospital, Kafanchan, before her transfer to Jos. The visit, captured in photographs, underscores the gravity of this tragedy and the urgent need for action beyond sympathy.
This crime must not be swept under the carpet, we call on the Kaduna State Government and all security agencies to ensure the suspects are fully prosecuted, prevent any form of release or compromise, provide full medical and psychological support for Endurance and compensate the victim and her family
Make this case a clear warning that forced marriages and v!ol£nc£ against children will never be tolerated, the government must know that, a Justice delayed or denied will only embolden more monst£rs.
If a 15-year-old girl can lose her hand today for rejecting forced marriage, what happens tomorrow? This is not just Endurance’s pain, It is our collective failure if we remain silent.
