The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has announced that pilots’ licensing and medical certification processes will now be linked to the National Identity Number (NIN) following the launch of a new digital system.

The authority said the integration of registration procedures with the NIN is designed to curb fraud, enhance security, reduce processing time and streamline paperwork in the aviation sector.

The Director-General of the NCAA, Capt. Chris Najomo, disclosed this on Wednesday in Abuja at the launch of the EMPIC Personnel Licensing and Medical Certification (PEL/MED) system, alongside a stakeholder engagement session.

Najomo explained that the new digital platform would improve efficiency, transparency and accuracy in the management of pilots’ licences and medical certificates, while ensuring proper identity verification through the NIN.

According to him, the initiative aligns with the NCAA’s ongoing efforts to modernise regulatory processes and adopt global best practices in aviation safety oversight.

He noted that linking licensing and medical certification to the NIN would eliminate duplication, reduce the risk of identity fraud and strengthen confidence in Nigeria’s aviation regulatory framework.

Najomo also assured stakeholders that the authority would continue to leverage technology to improve service delivery and maintain the highest standards of safety and security in the country’s aviation industry.
