The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Ekiti State Chapter on Sunday, urged its members to prioritise reportage of grassroot sports, just like the foreign football league.

Chairman of the Association, Qozeem Oladapo, gave the advice during a meeting with members in Ado-Ekiti.

Oladapo said that sports stakeholders are relying on the media to promote grassroot sports, where local talents can be trained to represent the state in National competitions.

According to him, promoting foreign football on sports programme or blogs, without showcasing our own loca talents, cannot improve grassroot sports, but rather, discourage sports administrators.

He noted that most sports administrators invest unlimited passion in discovering sports talents, which in turn required quality reportage.

“I want to urge SWAN members to always give priority to grassroot sports and talent discovery,” he said

He noted that promoting foreign football league without a corresponding reportage of the local league, is not the best.

“Our association will further gain more recognition and support if we give priority to promoting grassroot sports,” he said.

Oladapo, consequently , urged members to be professionals who enjoy promoting their own sports.
