The Peace, Security and Development Forum (PSDF) has called on the media, civil society groups and the general public to support security forces in the ongoing effort to combat insecurity.

The Secretary of the forum, Mr Afolabi Samuel, made the call while briefing newsmen on the state of the nation on Monday in Abuja.

Samuel said that Nigeria was confronting “formidable non-state actors” whose aim was to instil fear, cripple socio-economic development and derail the country’s economic recovery efforts.

He said the Armed Forces, under the leadership of the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, had intensified clearance operations across flashpoint areas and deserved unwavering national support.

“Our troops are making sacrifices daily to restore peace.

“We have lost brothers and fathers who paid the supreme price to protect this nation. Their sacrifices must never be in vain,” he said.

The forum secretary urged Nigerians to continue praying for the CDS and his troops, expressing confidence in his experience and capacity, especially judging from his antecedents as a former Chief of Army Staff.

He specifically appealed to media practitioners to avoid sensational headlines capable of emboldening adversaries or dampening troop morale.

He also urged CSOs and NGOs to deploy their influence and grassroots presence to promote peace, unity and national resilience.

“This is the time for responsible reporting.

“The media must help build confidence, not weaken the morale of our gallant troops,” he said.

“To the general public, we urge you not to give in to fear, because the aim of the enemies is to destabilise the economy and weaken national cohesion.

“We must not surrender to fear. Our economy is on a recovery path, and we all stand to lose if these enemies overpower us,” he added.

Samuel commended Gen. Oluyede and the Armed Forces for their sustained efforts despite daunting challenges, expressing optimism that Nigeria would eventually triumph.

“With the will of the people and God on our side, we will conquer. We must stand firmly with our security forces and our beloved country at this critical time,” he added.
