The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin(Unilorin), Prof. Wahab Egbewole, says the institution remains an active and proud participant in the socio-economic development of the country.

Egbewole stated this on Monday in Ilorin at the commencement of activities to mark the University’s 50th anniversary with a health walk by the staff, students, alumni and community members.

Flagging off the event at the Main Gate of the University, the Vice Chancellor, appreciated the institution community members for coming out in large numbers.

Egbewole described the participation of people as an affirmation of their commitment to the growth and ideals of the institution.

He noted that the golden jubilee was designed to highlight the University’s impact, draw attention to its achievements over the past five decades, and reaffirm its readiness for future innovations.

He said that the walk symbolises the university’s strong bond with its host community.

Egbewole also extended gratitude to development partners and friends of the university across the world, for their consistent support.

“We appreciate Unilorin partners and friends as they contribute tremendously to the University’s growth and success of the anniversary programme.

“We will end the walk at the Emir of Ilorin’s palace, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, to visit him.

“The Emirate has played a significant role in the University’s evolution since inception,” he said.
