In a renewed drive to enhance operational readiness and deepen synergy across critical maritime defence posts, the Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral AA Mustapha, has embarked on a high-level familiarisation tour of Forward Operating Base (FOB) Lekki and Naval Base Epe — two strategic units central to Nigeria’s coastal security architecture.
The Western Naval Command’s commitment to boosting operational efficiency and tightening maritime security received a major push as the Flag Officer Commanding, Rear Admiral AA Mustapha, began a strategic familiarisation tour of Forward Operating Base (FOB) Lekki and Naval Base Epe. The visit forms part of a broader effort to evaluate ongoing operations, assess readiness, and strengthen coordination within bases under the Command.
Rear Admiral Mustapha’s tour commenced at FOB Lekki, where he was welcomed by the Commanding Officer, Commander BC Bulus. During a comprehensive briefing, Cdr Bulus highlighted the unit’s achievements in safeguarding Nigeria’s maritime environment, particularly its role in protecting the Dangote Refinery — a critical national asset. He outlined recent successes in maritime patrols, anti-smuggling operations, and inter-agency collaborations that continue to reinforce national security along the coastline.
The FOC subsequently inspected key facilities at the base’s permanent site, taking a firsthand look at operational infrastructure and assessing the unit’s overall preparedness for emerging maritime threats.
The visit continued at Naval Base Epe, where Rear Admiral Mustapha was received by the Base Commander, Captain SO Ohunenese. A detailed operational presentation by Lieutenant EN Adekolurejo showcased the base’s milestones, ongoing projects, and recent upgrades aimed at improving responsiveness and personnel efficiency. The FOC also conducted an extensive tour of the permanent site, commending the officers and ratings for maintaining high professional standards and contributing to the Command’s strategic objectives.
At both locations, Rear Admiral Mustapha praised the unwavering dedication of personnel and urged them to remain steadfast in fulfilling the Nigerian Navy’s mandate. He reiterated the Command’s commitment to supporting the bases with resources and structural improvements to further enhance their operational capabilities.
The visit concluded with the exchange of souvenirs and group photographs, underscoring a productive engagement designed to inspire the ranks and fortify maritime defence operations across the Western Naval Command.
