Actress and filmmaker Regina Daniels has appealed to Nigerians to refrain from directing insults and online attacks at her mother, Rita Daniels, as her marital crisis with her estranged husband, Senator Ned Nwoko, continues to draw public attention.
In an emotional video posted on her Instagram page on Wednesday, Regina explained that her mother was not responsible for her decision to marry the lawmaker, stressing that she made the choice against her family’s advice.
“Please, I am begging everyone, stop insulting my mom. Na me carry my two legs enter,” she said.
Describing her mother as “the best thing that ever happened to me”, Regina stated that Rita had endured criticism for years over her marriage, even though she had initially opposed the union.
Responding to widespread claims that she married Mr. Nwoko for financial gain, Regina rejected the allegation, insisting that the family was not in financial distress at the time.
“We were not broke. What money can a man give a mother to hand over her child who was already providing everything for the family?” she asked.
She revealed that she fell in love with Mr. Nwoko despite multiple warnings from family members, including her siblings.
The actress also disclosed that the emotional pressure surrounding the marriage once pushed her to contemplate suicide.
According to her, she left home at night and went to a police station, insisting she wanted to proceed with the marriage despite her family’s objections.
While acknowledging that her relationship with Mr. Nwoko has now deteriorated, Regina said she still maintains respect for him because he is the father of her two sons, Munir and Khalifa.
However, she firmly stated that she is prepared to fight for custody and raise her children with or without his support.
“I’ll take them. I’ll train them. I’ll raise them, with or without your support,” she declared.
Regina added that her family has been under severe strain due to the marital crisis and the recent arrest of her siblings, which she claims was ordered by Mr. Nwoko.
Regina said the courage to speak publicly came from seeing how deeply her family was being affected and how strongly they were defending her.
Her mother, Rita Daniels, had earlier accused Mr. Nwoko of using Regina for personal gain, a claim Regina clarified was not influenced by her mother’s wishes but by her own decisions.
She stressed that while public scrutiny is expected due to her celebrity status, attacking her mother and family crosses a line.
The couple’s marital crisis became public in October when Regina accused Mr. Nwoko of physically assaulting her, leading her to seek separation.
He denied the claims, alleging that Regina’s behavior was influenced by substance abuse.
Since then, both sides have continued to issue statements and allegations, while public debate around the marriage continues to intensify
